Yat Ka Yan Dessert is a new restaurant by the Tang family. They’re the sister restaurant to Ren Ren Desserts, who is opened by another family member.
The older family members were searching for a way to bond the family together, and one day, they found the answer. The chef in the family, Wilson Tang, trained them all until they have the necessary skills to make the desserts. As such, they pride themselves on making everything from scratch.
A popular item at Yat Ka Yan is the Chendol ($3.20), which comprises a small mountain of crushed ice sitting in a generous amount of coconut milk, sweet red beans and green jelly on the side, and a drizzle of Gula Melaka. You’ll be pleased to know that they don’t add random ingredients such as grass jelly. The icy dessert is perfectly sweet and creamy at the same time. I can see why its so popular. The ratio of each ingredient is just right. The bowl is on the smaller side, but each bite is delicious.
